Hi Tom - I was listening to your latest podcast (#47), which I downloaded through iTunes. There was dead air from timestamp 27:50 to 29:07 (from the audio clip from the end of the episode to the start of the Final Flight review). Might want to check it out and upload a new version to iTunes. -Meredith

I will take a look at the Garageband file and make the necessary corrections if I find that dead air.

Thanks for the heads-up, Meredith!

With regards to Brad's review, he should have taken into consideration that Her Final Flight was a subscriber bonus, in other words a little gift for those that chose to support Big Finish. It was bundled with The Next Life. The comment about making up for Unregenarate makes no sense, as Unregenarate wasn't released until half a year after Her Final Flight. I'm glad that he took the time to share his opinions on the audio play, but the one thing that gets me is when facts are bent to fit ones opinion, and that one statement really irritated me. Now, I respect Brad's views on the story, regardless of whether they mirror mine or not, but a few minutes of attention to detail can improve the perceived quality of the review. I can better respect someone telling me something is rubbish, if he sounds like he knows what he is talking about. Sorry about the rant...

Oh, and Brad, the different themes where not used in the first few dozen releases (except for the eighth Doctor), until they decided for each Doctor to be represented by the theme from his era. And I like the Trial theme. It is too bad that the original Holmes storyline could not be used for episode 14. I think that in and of itself may have changed the course of Doctor Who. The planned season ending cliffhanger would have been unprecedented.

Yes, I also noticed the dead air right before the review as well.

Help! I am on fire!!!

Where to start...

First, the friend who gets the Big Finish audios (nearly all of them I think) lent me Unregenerate first, then Her Final Flight. So that's the order I listened to them. My comment about "making up for Unregenerate" plays out like this: Maybe when they wrote Her Final Flight, they were trying to make the plot as simplistic as possible to make up for the convuluted mess that Unregenerate was (IF they were written in that order...). Quite obviously, I need to set my friend straight and make sure he's lending me CDs IN THEIR PROPER ORDER!

In all seriousness, if you wanted to dicredit my ability to talk about Who, I'd start with the fact that I called Colin Baker the FIFTH doctor within the first minute of my recording... But, I stand by my review. I do appreciate what Big Finish has done, and their vision in doing so. Have you ever seen Star Trek: New Voyages? Same concept: Rabid, loving fans, carefully recreating and adding to the lore they love - but cramming way too many neat ideas into too short a timespan. The end result in both cases is something I desperately want to love, but can't confortably wrap my arms around.

Tom, next time I do a review, I'll make sure to properly prepare and research!! I should be ready in about a year! ;)

Brad,

I had no issue with the review itself, I'm not sure if I made that clear. A review is just an opinion, and yours is as valid as any other, as long as you listened to the play.

I was just making a point about fact checking, which seems to be a lost art these days. I'm not looking to discredit you at all, just trying to point out how you can improve your reviews in the future. Two minutes at the Big Finish web site looking up some backgroud, even if not used in the particular review itself, could help. I know how difficult it is to do these reviews. I still cringe when I hear my first review for Podshock.

Please don't let my comments discourage you from contributing to Tom's podcast.

Hey Guys and Gals

Let's just all keep in mind that this is everyone's podcast and blog. We have a very diverse listening audience with many points of view. As Taras mentioned, everyone is entitled to share their individual viewpoints with everyone else. Every one needs to respect each other's viewpoints as well.

We can disagree with each other as long as it is done in a civil, and respectful manner. I do believe that is what Taras was attempting to provide in his criticism of the review. However, I don't think it was as clear as it could have been initially, but he did clear it up in the end.

I do want everyone to feel comfortable in providing feedback, comments and audio reviews of books and shows, as well as personal opinions. I just want to make sure that this stays a safe and comfortable environment for all (Thanks to all of those HR people and their mandatory classes for the above response)

P.S. Brad, I still expect another review from you within the next month. I enjoyed your perspective IMMENSELY! I didn't realize that "Final Flight" was a special release, until I tried to look it up on the Big Finish website.

Thanks again to all!

P.P.S. By the way, you also live in the "Sound". Plenty of water to put out the fire! >:)
