Whocast #21 - 08.09.05

Another fun-filled podcast with mostly your contributions!

We have our 1st in a series by Zach Crisman - Happenings of the Spiral Politic. A review of all things Faction Paradox.
We have my review of the final part of The Unearthly Child - The FireMaker.
We also have an audio review of Season 27 (Season 1) by Paul Alves and his take on Bad Wolf.
Didn't get to your emails or forum discussions, due to time constraints, but hey, that gives us another show to do.

Enjoy!

I find Paul's take on season 27 and the whole Bad Wolf thing interesting.

I admit he has a good point...

And I have to wonder if they're keeping the Master's return a huge secret...I mean, ASH is scheduled to make a guest appearnace and he would be a great choice for the new Master...

There's the usual speculation that Antony HEAD will be the HEADmaster at the school in School Reunion, but at this point, I haven't seen any actual evidence that this is the case.

Still, I could see ASH playing a dark character...!

I'm not sure about the "Bad Wolf is still around" idea. Watching season 1/27, it's clear that RTD doesn't shy away from returning characters/ongoing storylines, but equally, he generally brings closure to them by the end of the season.
Also, it's a show for a mass-market audience, and RTD's approach is to give only as much as is needed for Joe Public to understand the story (eg we saw a Cyberman, but it wasn't named as it was unnecessary to the plot; we heard reference to Davros, but again no name mentioned).

Bad Wolf had a reason in S1, and I fully expect to see the odd bit of "Bad Wolf" graffiti in S2, but only in the background, and not part of the plot.

Although I've heard good reports of the Faction Paradox releases, I've never managed to get into them.

The idea was good, but came at a time when the 8DAs seemed to be turning into a clique for people who wanted publish their own non-Who stories, but needed Who to get their foot in the door. Too many of the novels seemed to be "Doctor Who" in name only.

That said, as Compassion, Sam, Fitz, the whole GallifreyGone thing, etc were a link/product of the FP stories, I guess they were seen as important at the time.

Maybe after a few more reviews, I'll find a space for FP, but right now it's just part of the very tangential Whoniverse, much like Bill Baggs' world of Zygons, Yeti, pipe-smoking ex-assistants, etc, etc.
