Whocast #24 - 09.16.05

Reviewing Doctor Who news from the past few weeks.

We also have Ari B's "This Week in Who", where he reviews the Big Finish Production of "Unregenerate" with Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford as the 7th Doctor and Mel.

I also go over some email. I also need to direct everyone over to Michael Hickerson and Sarah Hadley's podcasts with their review of Bad Wolf. I will comment on this commentary in the next Whocast.

I also need to point you over to Jill Arroway's podcast, The Signal, where she reviews Firefly and it's upcoming movie, Serenity. She's currently number one at Podcast Alley and Podcast Pickle! FANTASTIC!!!

Enjoy!

You might want to double-check the link to the .mp3 of this podcast. It's showing up like this and it's not going to work as-is:

I messed up again! Sorry about that! Fixed the feed and I know iPodderX and iTunes now recognizes it! Thanks, Mark!

I noticed in iTunes that you recorded this .mp3 file in a variable bit rate. This causes problems when playing the file on iPods. I have seen this happen with several podcasts that got recorded in a variable bit rate. I think the iPod looks at the bit rate to measure how long recording file is.

What happens is that after about half-way through the recording when I pause the iPod and then try to hit play again, the iPod will get confused at kick me back to the beginning. I've found that if i scroll past the halfway point and then hit play it will likewise not play and kick me back to the start. Often my iPod also getrs confused as to how long the recording is. So I am forced to listen to the file all the way through without pausing.

I use a 3rd gen. iPod but I think other iPod users may have similar problems. For our ease of use please don't record in Variable Bit Rate.

Again, sorry about that! When I updated to iTunes 5.0, it must have kicked that setting back on. I didn't recheck the import settings when I change my AIFF file to .MP3 in iTunes.

Thanks for noticing and I have changed this for future episodes.

Nope. The iTunes site says that home page is not available.

We're sorry, but we can't find the HomePage you've requested. It's possible that:

° The address was entered incorrectly. Check your spelling and try again.

° The .Mac member of this name has either created a page and removed it or has never published a HomePage.

° There is no .Mac member of this name. If you'd like this member name for yourself, sign up for a .Mac account right now and have your own HomePage in minutes.

Me again. I was able to go to the iTunes store, subscribe, and get the file.

The only commentary that Sarah and I have up and live is the one for Bad Wolf. We've done one for PotW, Dalek, Rose and Father's Day but those aren't posted yet....

In the last podcast, you talk about the UNIT web site from AoL and WWIII. I seem to recall that there was a secret back area to the web site where you could get in and supposedly set off missiles to destroy anywhere you wanted ala what Mickey does in the show. I can't recall how you accessed it, but I am sure there are archives of posts out there that can.

I will see if I can find a way to get you access to that area.

Hey Asa,

Let me know how Whocast 25 comes out this time. I reset the VBR settings.

To see the Unit missile section, go to www.unit.org.uk and click on the secure login.
The password is buffalo
You will then see the Missile launch site with a request to enter the override code. This can be anything beginning with B.

Thanks David!

I did try that but could never figure out how to aim the missles. I fire them and then that's it. I thought that there would be more to it! I guess I'll just stay disappointed and keep on playing the Dalek Game!

I don't think you can do much with them other than steer the missile Asteroids-stylee and click the fire button. But after all, isn't that enough :)
